Today on Parents in the Know, we have another special episode from our interview series. Today I’m pleased to introduce you to Vanessa Aitken, from Three Sixty Coaching and Stress Management.

Vanessa’s journey took her from advertising to homeopathy and finally to coaching, collecting several university degrees along the way. Her passion and expertise is directed towards helping busy, stressed out and anxious people to regain calmness, control and happiness. Vanessa offers personal coaching sessions and packages from her website and I’m very interested to hear what she has to say to parents today, as she has worked with many mothers and some fathers, and has seen what stresses them out and knows how to calm them down.

Vanessa has a six week online course available now to help people to de-stress, reduce anxiety and be a calmer person, so check it out.

Vanessa very generously shared her top tips for busy, stressed-out people. Vanessa’s top tips for reducing stress on the go:

  • Spend a little time practicing deep breathing from your diaphragm, in through the nose and out through the mouth, to reduce the output of stress hormones and engage the ‘rest and digest’ response.
  • Focus on the good things rather than the negative things that are competing for your attention. What you focus on deliberately becomes what you focus on naturally.
  • Practice mindfulness every day, by really focusing on the task at hand, feeling it with your senses and blocking out distractions. Find an activity which makes you relax (cooking, gardening, running, walking near water or in nature, colouring) and do it.
